Fish en Papillote Salmon

Use this simple French technique to bake fish in the oven. En papillote means wrapped, and it's a technique to cook fish in foil or parchment paper. It's a moist cooking method, and the fish is steamed, creating a succulent and juicy result. Preparing fish to bake in the oven using this technique can take under five minutes, and it is an easy recipe for beginners that is kid-friendly.

Fresh Thyme

Olive Oil

Sea Salt


Line a baking dish with tin foil.

Place the salmon in the foil.

Layer slices of lemon and fresh herbs on top.

Lightly drizzle with olive oil. Salmon is a fatty fish so adding too much oil will make this dish too heavy.  You can also use a small amount of butter instead of olive oil.  And this dish is still delicious without using any oil or butter.  

Close the foil tightly, and place the dish in the oven. 

Bake at 350 F until done.  About 15- 20 minutes for a pound of fish.

There are endless possibilities with this recipe. You can use capers, orange slices, dill, rosemary, or even a splash of cream. Get creative with what you have on hand.
