Who doesn’t love fries? I certainly do. But I don’t love spending a lot of time to make them at home. So, I'll show you a time saving hack to help you make homemade fries with little effort, and quality ingredients. Plus, some unique ideas for repurposing leftovers.

Ingredients

Idaho or yellow potatoes

Olive oil

Sea salt

Instructions

1. Rinse and peel the potatoes.

2. Slice them into rounds or lengthwise strips.

3. Place them on a baking sheet, and toss them with olive oil to lightly coat them.

4. Bake the potatoes at 400 degrees until golden brown—about 30 minutes.  Toss them two or three times to prevent them from sticking to the pan.

5. Once cooked to your liking, sprinkle the fries with sea salt and serve them immediately.  Read the notes below for leftovers ideas.

Tips- If you think you will make fries often, it is worth investing about $20 in this French Fry cutter.  It takes about 3 minutes to slice a full sheet tray of fries.

You can find the fry cutter here.

Notes

Making fries takes a little effort, but they are so good and better for your health than fast food fries, and having the leftovers makes it even more worth the effort.  With leftover fries, you can:

Warm them in a pan and serve them with a mixed green salad with French vinaigrette dressing.  A salad with leftover roasted potatoes, or in this case, homemade fries, is a delicious leftover dish from France.

Add them to an omelet.

Add them to the pan when you roast a chicken, so they soak up the juice- and there is your side dish.

Making French fries is an excellent opportunity to get kids involved in the kitchen.  They can peel the potatoes and cut them with this child-safe knife, making beautiful crinkle-cut fries.
