Did you know that the first ingredient in store-bought whipped cream is often water? You will also find preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, and less than 2% cream on the ingredients list.

Make whipped cream instead of buying it, not only because a homemade version is 100% pure but because the fresh taste is unparalleled. You’ll love watching your family swoon over your homemade whipped cream.

Here are two methods to make fresh whipped cream at home that are so easy you’ll never be tempted to buy it again. Read the notes below for ideas on using leftover whipped cream to make an easy dinner.

Ingredients

Heavy Whipping Cream

Organic Cane Sugar

Vanilla- optional

Orange Water- optional

Instructions

Two simple methods to make whipped cream

Method 1 Using a stand mixer

 1. Fit a stand mixer with the whisk attachment. Pour heavy whipping cream into the mixing bowl. Use about a 1/2 a cup to a cup, depending on how much you want to make.

 2. Add about a teaspoon of vanilla extract per cup of cream or as much as you like. You can also skip the vanilla. You can also use other extracts such as almond, mint, or orange.

 3. Add the desired amount of sugar. I use a small amount, about one teaspoon, for a cup of cream, and sometimes I skip the sugar altogether. Kids rave about how good homemade whipped cream is, even without sugar.

If you add sugar, let the cream be the focus. There is something so divine and almost luxurious about fresh whipped cream with just a hint of sweetness.

 4. Whip on high until cream is firm and fluffy. It takes about 3 - 4 minutes.

Using your stand mixer to make whipped cream is almost effortless. Put the ingredients in the mixing bowl, turn it on, and let the machine do the work while you handle something else in the kitchen.

Method 2 Using a milk frother

If you have a small milk frother for your coffee drinks, it’s perfect for making whipped cream. If you don’t have a small frother, Rösle is an excellent and sturdy brand.

Place a small amount of cream in a cup and add a bit of sugar and extract—if you are using extract. Hold the frother in the cup and whip the cream until it is firm and creamy. The cream will be ready in about 3 - 5 minutes.

Keep in mind the whipped cream will be 7 - 10 times in volume, so fill the glass accordingly.

This method is fun for kids to do, and it can keep them occupied while you are busy preparing dinner.

Notes

Instead of sugar, use maple syrup, or French orange water.

Whip the cream without adding sugar or vanilla, remove half of the whipped cream, and store in a container to use with savory dishes and leftovers. Add sugar and vanilla to the remaining whipped cream to use with desserts.
